How has war evolved from the past to present
War is commonly an armed fight between states or parties with issues with one another. Some people may say was brings evil, but i would say that war is necessary evil, in fact i think it helps in the advance of technological developments and makes the society a better one. These is a quote "War brings out the best in men", people suffer as one and go through the pain of war. through this suffer, many would understand the true meaning of life. War has also spurred the growth of technology. For example, the Iron age has brought the invention of the cannon, as time progresses, the gun was then invented. The Tank was also first introduces in world war 1, and furthur refined by world war 2. Without these needs to develop new weapons, these inventions might not have existed today. War has also evolved from being labour demanding to technology demanding. Before the 1900s, wars were mostly fought by soldiers without the aid of air support or transportation to help bring them from war zone to war zone. Coming into world war 1, the tanks was introduced as an superior form of artillery as it would prove to be an important asset to mankind, there were also aircraft to help the soldiers by air raiding the enemy's territory. Now, the method of was has completely changed and many countries are in a arms race to developing toward chemical warface. As war progresses, there is less emphasis on the soldiers, but the technology.

Hi Yi Heng Li Yuan here. I do not agree with you that war helps in the advance of technological developments. As what you say, tank, cannon and gun are invented because of war, and so these things are used for war. Since they are used for war, are they going to help improving our lifestyle? Of course not, and they will bring bloodshed to us. Technology is something that make our life more easy, but not painful. So, I think that it actually does not help in the advance of technology, but is created because of the abuse of technology.
ReplyDeleteSebastian here,
ReplyDeleteI can understand from your post that you are trying to say that war evokes the advancement of technology. I agree to your point to a certain extent. As what Li Yuan mentioned, many people misused technology and caused more bloodshed. The weapons used in war is definitely a difference between wars in the past and the present. From your post, the only point I can find is that war evokes the advancement of technology. You have given a lot of explanation and examples to it but have you considered other difference? For example, the reasons for fighting war. I may not be right but I am just giving you some suggestions. In the past, war was fought for power but now it is no longer the same. Countries may still want to fight war for power but it is not the common reason now. For instance middle east civil wars and protests. The reason for these wars are not fought for power. It is mainly because people are unhappy with their government. But overall you have given a very detailed explanation.
There are also some other examples, such as nuclear, which can generate electricity and is clean. Is that a good enough example?

ReplyDeleteI agree that war has brought about a huge technological influence, but I believe that this is not the ideal case. Technology is not necessary good, and I am of the opinion that we will be better off without guns, cannons and the like. The main reasons for these weapons are to fight war, which brings about much harm and destruction. Thus, won’t it be better for all of us to do away with these weapons and to do away with war altogether?
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am colin and i agree partly with what you said about people growing stronger physically and mentally after going through a war, looking at life from another point of view, presumably a better one. However, this does not means that war is good is it? You need to note that minorities lived the war unharmed to tell the stories. War do force improvement in technologies but these technologies means more danger, more responsibility and even more problems also!
Also, for your part about differences, i think you are limiting yourself to the war of the previous century like other people. You should consider great wars fought in China in the B.C also as they plays an important in the role of the evolution i believe.
Hi, I am Xingzhu. I agree with you that war spurred the growth of technology. Without war, most of the tanks, cannon, gun, etc would not be invented. Although these weapons are harmful, I feel that they are evidences to show that our technology is improving and without the invention of all this, many other things also might not be invented. Maybe you can also touch on some of the reasons for starting a war?
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with what you have said. you have not taken into account the good side of wars. to do so firstly you would need to explore the reasons war are fought which i think you have not done. you are limiting your scope to only the point of view that war is always bad. you should also explain why you think that the emphasis of war has moved from soilders to technology
